Airborne Geophysical SurveyThe airborne geophysical survey is one of the most important methods of mineral prospecting, optimizing research costs and reducing investment risk.
Geological MappingGeological mapping seeks knowledge of mineral wealth in the State, generating a registry of mineral occurrences and water resources.
Niobium MiningCompanhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração (CBMM) is the largest mining and industrial complex of niobium in the world.
Phosphate MiningThis is the second largest phosphate deposit in production in Brazil and is leased to Bunge Fertilizantes S/A, the main fertilizer producer in the country.
Natural GasCodemig participated in significant recent gas discovery in a Precambrian Petroleum System – Sao Francisco Basin – Brazil.
The history and traditions of the State of Minas Gerais are strongly connected to the mining activity and its huge mineral reserves. The State extracts more than 160 million tons of iron ore per year and accounts for 29% of the entire mineral production of Brazil, for 53% of the production of metallic minerals, around 50% of the entire gold produced in the country and for 75% of the niobium of the world. Sole national source of zinc, Minas Gerais is also the biggest producer of phosphate, graphite, lithium and calcareous.
The importance of Minas Gerais in this segment can also be measured by its position as the State responsible for more than half of Royalties paid for mineral exploration in Brazil (2010 data).
That much mineral richness gave origin to an internationally competitive iron industrial park that bids to position the State as the second largest Brazilian exporter.
CODEMIG
Codemig is a company owned by the State of Minas Gerais conducting activities to bolster the economic development of the State.
Codemig is always investing and implementing important projects in search of opportunities to enable new enterprises in the State, in partnership with the private sector. Among its areas of performance, we should point out its actions in mineral research, especially in the generation of geological and geophysical information, and most recently in the prospection of natural gas.
The commitment of the Government of Minas Gerais to widen the knowledge of the mineral potential of the State and to make that information available to companies of the sector is a permanent goal. After all, discovering new reserves and getting to know more about them transforms the State into a fertile ground to attract good investments. All these actions aim to transform riches into opportunities and to widen Minas Gerais' national leadership in the mining segment.
Codemig also acts conducting projects, services and enterprises, especially in the infrastructure sector. But the company built its long trajectory of success in mining and tourism.
Its performance in the tourism segment aims to improve infrastructure in the State's hydric resorts, besides supporting and developing actions to value business and event tourism. The Expominas Belo Horizonte — the most modern event and convention center in the country —, and Expominas Juiz de Fora, together with Expominas Araxá, act so tourism in Minas is not only a source of leisure and health, but also a big business that generates revenue, work and social welfare.
The company also coordinates projects in industrial districts and accounts for the management of the state's assets.
All these actions demonstrate Codemig's strong commitment to the economic development of Minas Gerais.
Presidente Tancredo Neves Administrative City
Codemig was in the forefront of the construction and implementation of Presidente Tancredo Neves Administratve City, new headquarters of the Government of the State of Minas Gerais, inaugurated in March of 2010. Codemig's participation extended to all rounds of the project, from hiring, to service management, until the implementation of supplementary services, needed to run the Administrative City.
The whole complex, with architectural project signed by the master of modern architecture, Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer, is made up of five buildings where 16 thousand civil servants work. Concentrating the administrative machine in a single address brought more agility to the daily administration of the state, besides improving the efficiency of the services rendered to the population.
